Shutterbug Magazine Feature

If you happen to be by a place that sells magazines, make sure you check the November issue of Shutterbug Magazine. Specifically, page 90, where you will find a feature with yours truly. The work profiled is my wedding / artwork hybrid site at www.erinantognoli.com.

I got a note about a half a year ago asking if I would allow the magazine to use a screen shot of my website with their profile, and of course I said yes. But, because the article is only available online to subscribers, I had not seen it when it first came out. I began getting emails from all over the world telling me they loved my work and that the article was really great, so that made me feel better, but ultimately I had to see it for myself and made a pit stop to Borders where I found the magazine on the rack.

I'd share it if I could, but due to copyright issues I can't scan and post the page, but if you get a chance check it out this month at the nearest place magazines are sold.

Holga Weddings Profiled!

The DC Wedding Planning Examiner ran a profile of my Holga Wedding Photography recently, which I thought was pretty cool. Leslie Weekes, wedding coordinator extraordinaire and half of Leslie Manning Events, had asked me a little while back if I would mind being interviewed for this column she will be writing to introduce different ideas to the wedding planning community, and I of course said yes! Leslie was the coordinator for the wedding I photographed last Fall that will be featured as a "Real Wedding" in this year's Fall Issue of The Knot Magazine, so I know she's great to work with.

My Holga Weddings + Portraits on the Evening News!

My Holga wedding & portrait photography booth made the evening news!

So a couple of weeks back I participated in the Unbridaled Wedding Expo in Philly. Well, while I was in Colorado for my art show opening / artist talk, I got an e-mail from Unbridaled. It turns out ABC News (Channel 6 in that region) was there interviewing people and gathering video footage of the event. And wouldn't you know it, they included quite a bit of footage of me and my booth setup! Apparently, I'm rather alternative even among the alternatives.

Keep an eye out for my booth, which consists of folding screens with panels of Holga images suspended from it, and you can see me (in the yellow shirt and black pants) talking with some prospective clients. You'll also get to see a lot of other offbeat and unique vendors featured in the video, along with snippets of the fashion show modeled by the Philly Roller Girls. Fun!

Eastern State Penitentiary - Holga Part 2, Bridal Session

As promised, now that I have triumphed over my scanner, I have more of my Holga images to share from my recent photo trip to Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly. These photos reflect what one can expect from my Holga Bridal sessions / Trash the Dress sessions... because this particular model was wearing a wedding dress! Regardless of what my photo subjects are wearing, I approach the shoot the same way - with the goal to make really cool, funky, otherworldly, and in general kick-butt images!

Lots of people ask me how I make these images. Lots and lots of practice pretty much sums it up! I do not use Photoshop - these are shot on film and printed and toned in the darkroom (with chemicals!), and are not manipulated in any way other than the occasional burn and dodge.

Erin Antognoli - Holga Weddings

Although the site has been live for a while now, I wanted to formally introduce the new brand within Halo Photographic - Erin Antognoli - Fine Art Holga Wedding Photography. It's been linked on the right side of this blog for a little while, and so I figured I'd call attention to it!

You've also seen some of the images from my Holga wedding photography on this blog, so you know that a.) they're not your traditional wedding photography, b.) they're made in the same artistic style as my Holga work that I display in galleries, and c.) they're made using film and a darkroom, rather than digitally.

What you may not know is that I do not in any way intend to replace the regular photographer in this endeavor. I would hope to work along side a regular wedding photographer who would capture the documentary aspects of the day, while I am commissioned to make artwork during a wedding. I have a list of photographers all over the country who would love to work with me who are insanely talented, but couples are welcome to find their own photographer as well... I always like meeting new people. And yes, I will travel just about anywhere if someone is interested in having me make Holga art at their wedding!

I plan to continue offering my documentary wedding photography services as well because I love that type of coverage, but can't do both documentary and Holga coverage at the same wedding. Lots of photographers do shoot a roll or two of Holga at their weddings, but frankly, I've never seen any that are overly impressive. I'd rather not make mediocre images, and feel that the Holga images, in the intricate style the I create them, would need my full attention if they are to be worth printing at all. And I only want to offer the best to my clients - the images I provide would have to be fit to hang in a gallery along side my personal artwork!

Holga Wedding #3

It's been a while since my last post! Sorry about that. I've been really busy lately and have neglected my blogging duties. Anyway, I just developed the Holga film that I shot at Lisa & Harry's wedding with Allison of A Britton Photography based out of Virginia, and thought I would share.

Holga Wedding #2

The weekend of June 9th I traveled up to the Boston area to photograph a Holga wedding with Zofia of Zofia Photography. The couple, Brianne and Pete, were friends of Zofia's from Nantucket, so it was a very fun event to be a part of. Here are a few of the photos I made throughout the day...



I thought this was funny because it's the Maid of Honor's speech and the daily paper. They were in two different rooms, but the combo was interesting to me.

And for all those wondering, I treat these wedding Holga images the same way I treat the Holga images I create to display in galleries and other art shows. I personally print these images in the darkroom and tone them for longevity and color, and everything is custom made as well as archival.

Holga Wedding!

On Thursday I tagged along with friends Jamie and Natalie of Borrowed Blue to do something I've been itching to do for quite a while now: to photograph an entire wedding using a Holga! I've tried to bring a Holga along and shoot a roll or two in between regular coverage, but I have found that it doesn't really work as well as it could, since I'm too worried about missing a moment and can't focus on making a really great Holga image. Anyway, I have all the film (yes, film!) finished, and am in the process of editing it. When I finish going through everything, I'll post more images, but I couldn't wait to show this one.
